Have you already acquired Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment? If so, it’s more than likely that you will also possess an Antigua and Barbuda passport. This article covers the extension of the passport recall in this Caribbean country.
Antigua and Barbuda is transitioning from the machine-readable passport to the ePassport. They launched the latter in April 2017 and have notified its passport holders of various deadlines to return their machine-readable passports since. For example, in November 2022, the Office of the Prime Minister Antigua and Barbuda announced that machine-readable passports would become invalid on January 1, 2024.
This declaration was accompanied by the following reasoning: “in light of the continuing impact of global events on the ability of citizens here and abroad to meet the previous deadline of 31 December 2022.” What this announcement did was give those with a machine-readable passport an extra year to hand it in.
Fast forward to December 2023 and the Office of the Prime Minister Antigua and Barbuda declared another extension. Except this one will last longer than a year. If your passport has more than one year of validity left, that is.
“The Passport and Citizenship Division of Antigua and Barbuda has announced that through a Decision of the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda, it has extended the deadline for the mandatory recall period for all Antigua and Barbuda Machine Readable Passports indefinitely.”
“The decision was taken in light of the continuing impact of global events on the ability of citizens here and abroad to meet the previous deadline of 31 December 2023.”
”All citizens of Antigua and Barbuda with a Machine-Readable passport are advised that the document remains valid until its expiration. The passport office will continue to issue ePassports to new applicants and persons with expired passports.”
