The recently launched RIF Trust Passport Index measures the most powerful passports in the world. Unlike our competitors, we’re the only passport index that ranks passports on a monthly basis. The identity of the greatest passport in the world will surprise you, but more on that later.
Latitude Group (RIF Trust’s parent company) Executive Chairman Eric Major notes growing interest from HNWIs in checking passports for the number of visa-free countries you can travel to. “Entrepreneurs used to fixate on shares going up and down in the stock market,” remarks Major. “However, in today’s interdependent world, they also pay considerable attention to the comparative strength of their passports. With our exclusive monthly updated Passport Index, we embolden them with unmatched insights.”
“Our clients travel to a number of countries for work. They want to reduce the hassle of applying for visas. Waiting for these to come through can be excruciating, so a visa waiver is preferable. Many of our clientele also have families. They want to reap the benefits of the strongest passports in the world to enhance their family’s global mobility.”
In a lofty 10th position, redolent of its country’s Andean mountain range, is the Chile passport. The number of visa-free countries passport holders can travel to out of the 199 we identify as countries is 107. On top of that, you can request a visa on arrival in 35 destinations and secure an evisa in advance to visit 30 more.
The epitome of European high life, Monaco, offers a passport currently ranked 9th. You can travel to 106 countries without a visa. There’s a visa on arrival available in 37 countries and an evisa in 30 further destinations.
Tying in 8th place are the Liechtenstein and United States passports. With a Liechtenstein passport, you can enjoy visa-free access to 114 destinations whereas a US passport facilitates visa-free travel to 116 countries. However, a Liechtenstein passport allows you to get a visa on arrival in 33 countries and evisas in 27 more whilst a US passport guarantees a visa on arrival in 37 countries and an evisa in 21.
5 passports jointly occupy the 7th ranking. They are those of Canada, Cyprus, Iceland, Latvia, and Malta. While there are differences between the numbers of visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and evisa countries, collectively they all ease your route to 175 destinations.
The passports of Bulgaria and Romania, new Schengen countries are in 6th place, along with those of fellow Schengen Area states, Estonia, Lithuania, and Slovenia. Once more, there’s a range of visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and evisa benefits, with your travel eased to 176 countries.
There are 3 passports sharing the 5th position. In alphabetical order, they are those of Croatia, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom. Again, they offer different figures for visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and evisa destinations, but together they facilitate your journey to 177 countries.
10 passports tie for the 4th rating. They are those offered by Australia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, and Slovakia. The total number of visa-free- visa-on-arrival, and evisa destinations you can reach with each passport is 178 out of the 199 available.
A total of 8 passports are rated 3rd. Congratulations, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, South Korea, and Switzerland. The aggregated amount of visa-free-, visa-on-arrival, and evisa destinations you can access with each passport is 179.
7 passports occupy the 2nd place. They are those of Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain. The number of visa-free-, visa-on-arrival, and evisa destinations vary, but they each smooth your path to 180 destinations.
And that shock top spot? The passport most powerful in the world is the United Arab Emirates passport. That’s because the UAE passport allows you to travel to 124 countries without a visa, 37 presenting one on arrival, and 21 with an evisa, numbering 182 destinations in all.
In terms of directness, naturalizing via Citizenship by Investment is typically your quickest path to a new passport. There is an alternative to a Plan B passport. You could always follow the long and windier trail to a second passport via Residency by Investment.
