Micronesia, officially known as the Federated States of Micronesia, is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean. With a population of approximately 112,000 people, it is composed of four states – Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, spread across more than 600 islands.
The climate in Micronesia is tropical, with little temperature variation throughout the year. Rainfall is abundant, especially during the rainy season from May to November. Despite its small size, Micronesia is rich in biodiversity and boasts of a unique blend of Micronesian, Melanesian, and Polynesian cultures.
Micronesian culture is deeply rooted in social hierarchy, respect for elders, and a strong sense of community. The traditional economy is based on subsistence farming and fishing, but tourism is a growing sector, attracting visitors with its pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and historical World War II sites.
The economy of Micronesia is largely dependent on US financial assistance, under the Compact of Free Association agreement. However, the government is making efforts to diversify the economy and reduce its dependence on foreign aid. Micronesia’s passport is ranked 59th in terms of travel freedom, allowing its citizens visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 119 countries and territories.
