Mexico City. Monterrey. San Luis Potosí. San Juan del Río. Querétaro. David Regueiro has been on a tour of Mexico, with partners Oriol Molas from Orience and Lignum Financial Services’ Ruy Castillo. They have become the go-to Residency by Investment experts for Mexican investors.
“We’ve been speaking to a growing number of increasingly interested Mexican HNWIs,” Regueiro reveals. “They’re attending our events to find out more about the Portuguese and Spanish Golden Visas.”
“There’s also been plenty of curiosity shown regarding the US EB-5 Investor Visa. We’ve also taken the opportunity of introducing the concept of the UAE Golden Visa.”
If you were unable to see David, Oriol, and Ruy in action, joined by Ángela Ramírez and Zekko Rivera for the San Luis Potosí date, we’ve summarized the key points of their presentations below.
The Portuguese Golden Visa dates back to 2012, learned the Mexican audience. It was set up to stimulate foreign direct investment in this European country. Investors purchased real estate or made other qualifying investments in return for residency in Portugal.
The Portuguese government has since abolished obtaining residency via buying property. However, investing in funds has become the most popular option since the real estate route was sealed off. One of the major benefits of acquiring a Portuguese Golden Visa is that it enables you to claim citizenship 5 years after applying for residency.
There are conditions attached. You must spend a minimum of 7 days a year in Portugal. Before becoming a Portuguese national and making yourself eligible for a powerful Portuguese passport, you need to pass a language test or do an online course demonstrating your A2 proficiency in Portuguese.
Investing in Portuguese residency is a family-friendly venture. You can bring your dependents with you. Around 13,000 investors have secured a Portuguese Golden Visa, followed by more than 20,000 of their family members.
Mexican investors have been asking the question: Is the Spanish Golden Visa going the way of the dodo? Well, rumours of Spanish Residency by Investment’s demise have been somewhat exaggerated. Especially as the opposition Popular Party have launched a survival plan.
But as the touring group outlined, the Spanish Golden Visa is facing extinction in 2024. The government in Spain has announced plans to eradicate this European residency. Whilst we know where it’s going to happen, we don’t know exactly when.
David and co pressed home the importance of investing while there’s still time. While the programme is set to disappear, its lifelong benefits won’t – if you act quickly, that is.
The minimum option is a €500,000 real estate purchase. As well as providing you with a place to live or rent out, you can enjoy visa-free access across the Schengen zone. Sit tight for 2 years, as opposed for non-LATAM nationalities (with the exception of Filipinos) and you’ll qualify for Spanish citizenship. A Spanish passport is the world’s strongest, enabling you to travel to 183 countries with no visa required.
The nearest new residency available to Mexican investors is also the dearest. But the minimum $800,000 US EB-5 Investor Visa is a high-value proposition. Its first benefit is that it leads to you and your family (spouse and children under the age of 21) acquiring green cards.
The next step up from a green card is US citizenship. You and your family become eligible to become American nationals after 5 years of residency. This enables you all to apply for a United States passport, the 6th most powerful passport in the world with visa-free access to 178 destinations.
Another advantage of American residency is the better education you’ll be able to give your kids. This includes the chance to improve their English language skills at high school. They’ll also enjoy superior access to the best US universities and can enjoy a head start over career rivals once they apply for their first job or start their own business.
All the family can benefit from being altogether closer to the world’s leading medical facilities. From general practitioners to surgeons, the standard of healthcare in US medical centres and hospitals is a class apart. When your or somebody’s else life is in your hands, you want to be able to reach the world’s leading authorities.
The crowds attending our tour in Mexico heard of the rising popularity of the UAE Golden Visa. The chance to hold a residence permit in the United Arab Emirates is a big draw. A particular growth market is the Ras Al-Khaimah option which is more affordable than in other emirates.
Mexican investors were told of the family-friendly advantages of the UAE Golden Visa. You can add a spouse plus children of any age. There is even the opportunity to include your domestic staff.
The UAE Golden Visa is a minimum residency Residency by Investment. You don’t have to visit to ensure you continue to receive benefits.
While this golden visa doesn’t lead to citizenship, it can still make your business and leisure travel plans free of hassle. That’s thanks to the 18 visa-free countries you can enter with a UAE residence permit. They range from Armenia to Thailand, taking in the likes of Indonesia, Japan, and Singapore.
