Lesotho, also known as the Kingdom in the Sky, is a small, landlocked country nestled within the borders of South Africa. With a population of approximately 2 million people, it is known for its high-altitude terrain, mountainous landscapes, and a climate that ranges from cool in the highlands to temperate in the lowlands.
The Basotho people, who make up the majority of Lesotho’s population, have a rich cultural heritage. Sesotho, the national language, is widely spoken alongside English. The country’s culture is deeply rooted in music, dance, and the art of storytelling, with the traditional Basotho blanket playing a significant role in their daily life and ceremonies.
Lesotho’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, livestock, and the export of water and electricity to its neighboring country, South Africa. The country also has a growing textile industry and is known for its high-quality wool and mohair. However, it is heavily dependent on remittances from Basotho working in South Africa and international aid.
Lesotho is a unique destination for adventure tourism, offering activities such as hiking, horse riding, and even skiing in winter. With its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and friendly locals, Lesotho is a fascinating country to explore.
