About Canada

Canada comprises around 2/5ths of the North American continent, making it the second largest country in the world in area behind Russia. Its land border with the United States is 5,525 miles long. Despite Canada’s immense spread, it’s one of the world’s most thinly-populated countries. Canada’s capital is its 4th largest city, Ottawa. This is roughly 250 miles northeast of Toronto and 125 miles west of Montreal, Canada’s first and second cities. The third biggest city is Vancouver, an entry point to Canada’s interior.

Canada has two official languages: English and French. Yet is name comes from the Huron-Iroquois word,

kanata

, which translates as settlement or village. As part of the Commonwealth, Canada’s Head of State remains King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
For Canadians, community is important. In global matters, they’re more likely to be doves than hawks. A founding member of the United Nations, Canada takes its international responsiblities seriously. It’s also one of the democracy-focused Group of Seven (G7) and has been active in a number of major UN agencies and other worldwide operations.

The country is founded on multiculturalism. Canada proudly welcomes immigrants from all over the world. Indeed, Quebec’s original Residency by Investment program was the first of the contemporary area, serving as a prototype for other countries to follow. The Canada passport is one of the most powerful in the world, enabling holders to enjoy visa-free access to 175 countries.
